Our Wicker Baskets Are Eco-Friendly!

On April 22nd, more than one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day, a time to reflect on ways that we can protect our planet. A great way to “think green” around your home is with wicker baskets. Not only are they pretty and practical, but they are also eco-friendly in the following ways.

Wicker baskets are typically made from rattan which is a rapidly renewable material natural to the forest where it is harvested. Since rattan grows very quickly, requires little water to grow and is almost always grown pesticide-free, it is an eco-friendly material that uses less of the Earth’s resources. Our baskets are also finished with a water-based lacquer rather than a chemical heavy oil polish.

Local Indonesian artisans weave our baskets in their homes and multiple family members work together in their creation. Basket weaving is a traditional handicraft in these villages, and a skill that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Wicker baskets have a variety of different uses and also make excellent replacements for plastic or paper bags. When gifting presents in baskets, they are often re-used for closet, office or pantry organization, or even as waste paper bins.

Our wicker baskets are made with the highest quality of rattan so they last longer and don’t end up in the garbage. When it is time to throw out wicker baskets, they degrade into dirt compost, helping reduce waste in landfills.

Thinking about purchasing products that are easy on the Earth? Eco-friendly wicker baskets are a great way to go. Check out our wide array of choices for functional and decorative use.
